Best Individual Performances of the 2022 Roswell Invaders Season
The 2022 Roswell Invaders season ultimately ended in a Pecos League Championship, and the road to the title was filled with remarkable individual performances. Roswell featured a deep lineup capable of producing enormous offensive nights along with a pitching staff that delivered its best baseball when the season mattered most. From six-hit games and six-RBI performances to dominant playoff starts and an eight-inning championship-clinching performance, these were some of the best individual performances of the 2022 Roswell Invaders season.
Jonathon Bigley — 6-for-7, Home Run, 6 Runs and 6 RBIs against Austin
One of the most extraordinary offensive performances in Roswell Invaders history came from Jonathon Bigley on July 9 against the Austin Weirdos.
Bigley went an incredible 6-for-7, scored six runs and drove in six as Roswell defeated Austin 25-11 in 10 innings. His six hits included three doubles and a home run, and he also drew a walk.
Bigley was at the center of an amazing Roswell offensive attack that collected 20 hits and scored 14 runs in the top of the 10th inning. It was one of the biggest individual games by an Invaders hitter during the entire 2022 season.
Robert Morosetti — Perfect 6-for-6 with a Home Run against Austin
As remarkable as Bigley's July 9 performance was, Robert Morosetti was every bit as difficult to retire that night.
Morosetti went a perfect 6-for-6, scored four runs, drove in three, walked twice and hit a home run. He also doubled twice and stole a base.
Between Bigley and Morosetti, the two Roswell hitters combined to go 12-for-13 with 10 runs scored, nine RBIs, five doubles and two home runs. Their performances helped turn a close game into an incredible 25-11 Roswell victory.
John Tuttle — Home Run and 3 RBIs in 25-11 Victory
John Tuttle also played a major role in Roswell's July 9 offensive explosion.
Tuttle entered the game and went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, three walks and a run scored. His power helped Roswell continue adding runs during a game in which the Invaders eventually reached 25.
Lance Myers — Reaches Base Six Times and Scores Five Runs
The July 9 game also produced one of the season's most unusual offensive lines from Lance Myers.
Myers officially went only 1-for-1, but he walked five times, was hit by a pitch and scored five runs. His ability to continually reach base helped fuel Roswell's 25-run attack.
It was a perfect example of how an individual performance can dominate a game without producing a conventional multi-hit stat line.
Juan Diego Montes — Three Hits and 2 RBIs at Trinidad
Juan Diego Montes delivered one of his early-season standout games on June 10 at Trinidad.
Montes went 3-for-4, scored a run and drove in two as Roswell collected 13 hits. Robert Morosetti also went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, while Jack Matero went 2-for-3, scored twice and walked twice.
Although Roswell came up one run short in an 11-10 game, Montes, Morosetti and Matero combined for eight of the Invaders' 13 hits.
Dillan Smith — Three Hits, Two Doubles and an RBI against Colorado Springs
Dillan Smith led Roswell's offense on June 18 when the Invaders defeated the Colorado Springs Snow Sox 9-2 at Joe Bauman Stadium.
Smith went 3-for-5 with two doubles, scored twice and drove in a run. John Tuttle also had a huge night, going 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.
The two hitters combined for six of Roswell's 13 hits and four of the team's eight RBIs.
John Tuttle — Three Hits and 3 RBIs against Colorado Springs
The June 18 victory also stands as one of John Tuttle's best all-around games of the season.
Tuttle went 3-for-4 with a double, scored twice and drove in three runs. He reached base four times and provided much of the run production in Roswell's 9-2 victory.
Christopher Guzman earned the victory with three innings of relief, allowing only one run on two hits. Jonathan Chinchilla started the game and allowed only one run over four innings while striking out five.
Jonathan Chinchilla — Four Innings, One Run and 5 Strikeouts
Jonathan Chinchilla gave Roswell a strong start in the June 18 victory over Colorado Springs.
Chinchilla pitched four innings, allowed only one run on four hits, walked one and struck out five. Roswell's pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts and allowed only two runs in the 9-2 victory.
Jarod Sprinkle — Six Innings, Three Hits and 6 Strikeouts against Weimar
Jarod Sprinkle delivered one of Roswell's strongest regular-season starts on July 13 against the Weimar Hormigas.
Sprinkle worked six innings, struck out six and allowed only three hits as Roswell defeated Weimar 7-4. The performance gave the Invaders an important victory as they began building momentum during the second half of the season.
Markus Bracey — Six Innings and 7 Strikeouts in Playoff Victory
One of Roswell's most important pitching performances came in the postseason from Markus Bracey.
Facing the Garden City Wind in Game 1 of the playoffs on August 3, Bracey threw six innings, struck out seven and allowed only four hits as Roswell won 13-8.
Rodriguez went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs as Roswell defeated Garden City 13-8 in Game 1. He was one of the primary offensive forces in a 20-hit Invaders attack.
Jonathon Bigley matched him with three hits and three RBIs of his own.
Anthony Moore — Six Strong Innings in Playoff Battle at Garden City
Anthony Moore gave Roswell an outstanding start in the second game of the Garden City playoff series on August 4.
Moore pitched six innings and allowed only two runs, giving Roswell a chance to win a tight postseason game on the road.
Matthew Rodriguez continued his hot postseason hitting by homering for the third time in two days.
Although Garden City eventually won 5-4 on a two-out, two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth, Moore's six-inning effort was one of Roswell's best postseason starts.
Jonathon Bigley — Three Hits and 3 RBIs in Playoff Victory
Bigley's huge regular season carried into the postseason. In Roswell's August 11 victory over Trinidad, Jonathon Bigley went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs.
Combined with Smith's four-hit game, the pair accounted for seven of Roswell's 12 hits and five of the team's six credited RBIs in the 7-5 victory.
One night earlier against Trinidad, Jonathon Bigley had already produced another huge postseason performance.
Bigley went 2-for-5, scored a run and drove in five as Roswell won 12-10. Dillan Smith went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs, while Colton Adams went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.
Those three hitters combined to drive in 11 of Roswell's 12 runs.
Sam Russell — Seven-Inning Championship Series Victory over Tucson
Sam Russell delivered one of the most important starts of Roswell's entire season on August 13 in Tucson.
Russell pitched seven innings and faced 31 hitters as Roswell defeated the Tucson Saguaros 6-3 in the opening game of the championship series.
Roswell's offense collected 13 hits. Colton Adams, Matthew Rodriguez and Dillan Smith each went 2-for-5, Jonathon Bigley went 3-for-5 and Juan Diego Montes went 2-for-3.
Anthony Moore — Eight Innings to Win the Pecos League Championship
The defining pitching performance of Roswell's 2022 season came from Anthony Moore in the championship-clinching game against Tucson.
With the Pecos League Championship on the line, Moore pitched eight innings, allowed only five hits and struck out five as Roswell defeated Tucson 5-2.
Dillan Smith gave Roswell an immediate boost by hitting a huge first-inning home run. Jack Matero also contributed at the plate as the Invaders took control of the championship game.
Moore's eight-inning performance put Roswell on the doorstep of the title and the Invaders finished the job to capture their fourth Pecos League Championship, adding 2022 to their previous championships in 2011, 2013 and 2015.
Dillan Smith — First-Inning Home Run in Championship Clincher
When Roswell needed an early spark in the championship game, Dillan Smith provided it.
Smith launched a first-inning home run against Tucson in the championship-clinching game. Combined with Anthony Moore's eight dominant innings, the early power helped put Roswell in position to finish its championship run with a 5-2 victory.
A Championship Season Filled With Outstanding Individual Performances
The 2022 Roswell Invaders season produced great performances throughout the summer, but the biggest performances became even better as the games became more important.
Jonathon Bigley's 6-for-7 game with six runs and six RBIs against Austin stands among the most remarkable offensive games of the season. Incredibly, Robert Morosetti went 6-for-6 with four runs and three RBIs in the very same game. Together, Bigley and Morosetti collected 12 hits as Roswell scored 25 runs.
Dillan Smith consistently produced throughout the season and elevated his game during the playoffs. He collected four hits in the August 11 victory over Trinidad and then homered in the championship-clinching victory over Tucson.
Matthew Rodriguez was another major postseason contributor. He had three hits and three RBIs in Roswell's playoff-opening victory at Garden City and then continued his power surge with his third home run in two days the following night.
On the mound, Jarod Sprinkle gave Roswell six innings with six strikeouts and only three hits allowed against Weimar. Markus Bracey struck out seven over six innings in the playoff opener at Garden City. Sam Russell delivered seven innings in Roswell's 6-3 championship-series victory over Tucson.
Then came Anthony Moore's championship performance. With Roswell playing for the title, Moore threw eight innings, allowed only five hits and struck out five in the 5-2 victory over Tucson.
The Invaders finished the job and became 2022 Pecos League Champions, giving Roswell its fourth league championship. The title joined the Invaders' previous championships from 2011, 2013 and 2015.
From Bigley's six-hit, six-RBI explosion and Morosetti's perfect 6-for-6 game to Smith's postseason hitting, Russell's championship-series start and Moore's eight-inning championship clincher, the 2022 Roswell Invaders season was filled with individual performances worthy of a championship team.
