Best Individual Performances of the 2019 Roswell Invaders Season
The 2019 Roswell Invaders produced another winning season at Joe Bauman Stadium, finishing 37-21 behind a lineup that could overwhelm opponents and a pitching staff that featured several of the Pecos League's top performers. Roswell scored 20 or more runs multiple times and sent eight players to the Mountain Division All-Star Game. From huge multi-hit games and dominant pitching performances to clutch victories against Alpine, Garden City and Santa Fe, these were some of the best individual performances of the 2019 Roswell Invaders season.
Matt Paciello — One of the Pecos League's Top Hitters
Matt Paciello established himself as one of the most dangerous hitters in the Roswell lineup during the 2019 season.
On June 5 against Garden City, Paciello went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs. The three-hit game was part of an early-season stretch in which Paciello was consistently producing in the middle of the Invaders order.
Paciello's outstanding first half earned him a spot in the 2019 Pecos League All-Star Game, where he was ultimately named the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player.
Jared Hagan — Two Hits, Three Runs and 2 RBIs against Garden City
Jared Hagan delivered an outstanding offensive performance against Garden City on June 5.
Hagan went 2-for-4, drew a walk, scored three runs and drove in two. He repeatedly created scoring opportunities from near the top of the Roswell lineup and was involved in five of the Invaders' nine runs.
Hagan's productive first half also earned him selection to the Pecos League All-Star Game.
Aaron Stubblefield — Two Hits and 2 RBIs against Garden City
Aaron Stubblefield joined Hagan and Paciello in producing a big game against Garden City on June 5.
Stubblefield went 2-for-4 with a walk, scored a run and drove in two. At the end of the game his batting average stood at an impressive .529, illustrating just how hot his start to the season had been.
Stubblefield would go on to represent Roswell in the Pecos League All-Star Game.
Peter Bocchino — Three Hits against California City
Peter Bocchino delivered one of his strongest games of the season on July 20 against the California City Whiptails.
Bocchino went 3-for-4, scored twice, drove in a run and walked once. He reached base four times in five plate appearances and accounted for three of Roswell's nine hits.
His three-hit performance kept the Invaders in a close game that was decided in the ninth inning.
John Saviano — Five Innings and 6 Strikeouts against California City
John Saviano delivered one of Roswell's strongest pitching performances on July 20 against California City.
Saviano pitched five innings, allowed only two runs on four hits and struck out six. He threw 78 pitches and left the game with Roswell in excellent position.
The performance lowered his ERA to 2.96 and demonstrated why Saviano was selected to represent Roswell in the 2019 Pecos League All-Star Game.
Kyle Herrick followed Saviano on July 20 and recorded five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
Combined, Saviano and Herrick struck out 11 California City hitters before Albert Neff recorded another strikeout in the ninth. Roswell pitching finished the game with 12 strikeouts.
Zack Carmody — Two-Run Pinch Hit against California City
Zack Carmody made the most of his opportunity off the bench in the July 20 game.
Carmody came into the game as a pinch hitter and delivered a hit that drove in two runs. In only one official at-bat, he accounted for one-third of Roswell's six runs.
One of the first indications of how dangerous the 2019 Roswell offense could be came June 1 when the Invaders scored 23 runs against the White Sands Pupfish at Joe Bauman Stadium.
Roswell's lineup overwhelmed White Sands pitching and turned the game into one of the highest-scoring Invaders victories of the season. The 23-run performance was only a preview of the enormous offensive totals Roswell would produce later in the summer.
Roswell's Offensive Attack Explodes in 17-1 Road Victory at Trinidad
Roswell delivered one of its most complete road performances on June 9 when the Invaders defeated the Trinidad Triggers 17-1 at Central Park.
The combination of overwhelming offense and run prevention made the game one of Roswell's most impressive victories of the first half. It also demonstrated the depth of a roster that would eventually send numerous players to the Pecos League All-Star Game.
Roswell Scores 12 in Dominant Victory over Garden City
The Invaders produced one of their strongest all-around home games on June 25 when they defeated the Garden City Wind 12-1 at Joe Bauman Stadium.
Holding a strong Garden City club to a single run while scoring 12 made the victory stand out among Roswell's best games of the season. Roswell's pitching controlled the game while the offense consistently added to the lead.
Two nights later, the Invaders offense erupted again. Roswell defeated White Sands 18-2 on June 27 at Joe Bauman Stadium.
The victory was another example of the tremendous run production Roswell could generate when its lineup was rolling. The Invaders combined a huge offensive performance with a pitching staff that limited White Sands to only two runs.
Matt Paciello — 2019 Pecos League All-Star Game MVP
Matt Paciello received one of the biggest individual honors of Roswell's season when he was named Most Valuable Player of the 2019 Pecos League Mountain Division All-Star Game.
Having eight players chosen for the All-Star Game showed just how much individual talent Roswell had on its 2019 roster.
Carson Corff — All-Star Left-Hander
Carson Corff returned to Roswell in 2019 and again established himself as an important member of the Invaders pitching staff.
Corff's work earned him a place on the 2019 Pecos League All-Star roster. As a left-handed pitcher with previous Roswell experience, he gave the Invaders an experienced option on the mound throughout the season.
Albert Neff — All-Star Selection
Albert Neff was another member of the Roswell pitching staff selected for the Pecos League All-Star Game.
Neff's selection placed him alongside Carson Corff and John Saviano among the Invaders pitchers honored during the first half of the season.
Daryl Donerson — All-Star Outfielder
Daryl Donerson gave Roswell another dangerous offensive weapon during 2019 and earned a place on the Pecos League All-Star roster.
Donerson brought previous Pecos League experience to the Invaders after playing for the Bakersfield Train Robbers and became part of a Roswell outfield that helped fuel one of the league's highest-scoring offenses.
Jared Hagan — All-Star Season at the Top of the Lineup
Jared Hagan consistently helped set the table for Roswell's offense and was rewarded with an All-Star selection.
His June 5 game against Garden City illustrated his value: two hits, three runs, two RBIs and a walk. Hagan's ability to reach base and score runs made him an important part of an Invaders lineup capable of producing enormous innings.
Aaron Stubblefield — All-Star Shortstop and Offensive Catalyst
Aaron Stubblefield gave Roswell an experienced presence in the infield and was one of the Invaders selected to the Pecos League All-Star Game.
On June 5 he went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a run and a walk. By July 20, Stubblefield remained a major on-base threat, drawing four walks in a single game against California City.
The biggest offensive explosion of Roswell's regular season came on July 9 at Joe Bauman Stadium when the Invaders defeated the White Sands Pupfish 28-3.
Twenty-eight runs in a single game represented the extraordinary ceiling of the Roswell offense. The Invaders could attack from throughout the lineup, and on this night White Sands simply could not slow them down.
One day after scoring 28 runs against White Sands, Roswell's bats stayed hot against the Santa Fe Fuego.
The Invaders defeated Santa Fe 15-4 on July 10 at Joe Bauman Stadium. Combined with the previous night's 28-run explosion, Roswell scored 43 runs over the two games.
Later on July 10, Roswell showed that it could win an entirely different type of baseball game.
After winning a 15-4 slugfest, the Invaders edged Santa Fe 2-1 in a low-scoring game. It was one of Roswell's best examples of winning with pitching and defense rather than overwhelming offense.
Roswell followed with another impressive performance against Alpine on July 14, defeating the Cowboys 4-2 on the road at Kokernot Field.
Winning a low-scoring game at Alpine required strong pitching, and the Invaders held the Cowboys to only two runs to earn one of their most impressive road victories of the summer.
John Saviano — All-Star Starter and One of Roswell's Top Arms
John Saviano was one of Roswell's most reliable pitchers throughout the 2019 season.
His July 20 start against California City was a good example of his effectiveness. Saviano allowed only four hits and two runs over five innings while striking out six. His ERA stood at 2.96 following the appearance.
Saviano's performance throughout the first half earned him a Pecos League All-Star selection.
Roswell's 24-Run Victory to Finish the Home Schedule
The Invaders delivered one final offensive explosion at Joe Bauman Stadium on August 3, defeating the White Sands Pupfish 24-11.
It was a fitting conclusion to a season in which Roswell's offense repeatedly produced huge totals at home. The Invaders had scored 23 against White Sands on June 1, 18 on June 27, 28 on July 9 and then 24 more on August 3.
A Season Filled With Outstanding Individual Performances
The 2019 Roswell Invaders finished 37-21 and featured one of the deepest collections of individual talent in the Mountain Division.
Matt Paciello emerged as one of Roswell's top hitters and ultimately earned Pecos League All-Star Game MVP honors. Jared Hagan and Aaron Stubblefield consistently created offense near the top of the lineup, while Daryl Donerson and Jalin Lawson gave Roswell additional offensive weapons.
Peter Bocchino's three-hit performance against California City was one of his best games of the summer, while Nolan Hoff reached base four times and drove in two runs in the same game. Zack Carmody delivered two RBIs in a single pinch-hit appearance.
Roswell also featured an impressive collection of pitchers. John Saviano produced a 2.96 ERA deep into July and struck out six over five innings against California City. Carson Corff and Albert Neff joined Saviano as Pecos League All-Star selections, while Kyle Herrick demonstrated his strikeout ability with five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings on July 20.
The team's offensive totals were remarkable. Roswell scored 23 runs against White Sands on June 1, 17 in a road victory at Trinidad, 18 against White Sands on June 27, 28 against White Sands on July 9, 15 against Santa Fe the next day and 24 against White Sands on August 3.
But Roswell could also win close games. The Invaders defeated Garden City 7-6, Alpine 11-10, Santa Fe 2-1, Alpine 7-5 and Alpine 4-2 during a season in which they showed they could win with offense, pitching or late-game execution.
Eight Roswell players — Matt Paciello, Aaron Stubblefield, Albert Neff, Carson Corff, Daryl Donerson, Jalin Lawson, Jared Hagan and John Saviano — were selected to the 2019 Pecos League All-Star Game, and Paciello came away with MVP honors.
From Paciello's All-Star season and Saviano's work on the mound to Hagan's run production, Stubblefield's ability to reach base and Roswell's extraordinary 28-run performance against White Sands, the 2019 season produced an impressive collection of individual performances and memorable nights at Joe Bauman Stadium.
