Best Individual Performances of the 2017 Roswell Invaders Season
The 2017 Roswell Invaders put together another outstanding season at Joe Bauman Stadium and advanced all the way to the Pecos League Championship Series. The Invaders featured a deep lineup with Cody Bishop, Kaohu Gaspar, Joey Miller, Bobby Webb, Bradley Cuyos, Kyle Peralta and Mitch Elliott, while Mike Scimanico, Kellen Marruffo, Alex Dandridge, Ty Geary and Lance Fairchild delivered important performances on the mound.
Roswell could win games in completely different ways. The Invaders produced huge offensive nights, received double-digit strikeout performances from their starting pitchers and won several close games late in the season. These were some of the best individual performances of the 2017 Roswell Invaders season.
Alex Dandridge — Six Strong Innings in 14-3 Victory over White Sands
Alex Dandridge delivered one of Roswell's first strong starting pitching performances of the season on May 29 against the White Sands Pupfish.
Dandridge worked six innings, allowed three earned runs on seven hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four. He earned the victory as Roswell defeated White Sands 14-3 in Alamogordo.
The performance was especially impressive because Dandridge consistently attacked the strike zone. Going six innings without issuing a walk gave Roswell exactly what it needed while the offense supplied 14 runs.
Roswell's May 29 victory also featured a big offensive performance from Louis Martini.
Martini went 3-for-5 and led the Invaders at the plate as Roswell scored 14 runs against White Sands. His three-hit game provided plenty of support for Alex Dandridge's six-inning start.
Joey Miller came through in an important early-season game against White Sands on June 5.
Miller went a perfect 2-for-2 as Roswell edged the Pupfish 4-3 at Joe Bauman Stadium. In a game decided by a single run, every opportunity mattered, and Miller delivered both times he was officially at bat.
The victory moved Roswell to 7-5 and helped the Invaders build momentum after the opening weeks of the season.
Bradley Cuyos — Two Home Runs in 12-11 Victory over Garden City
One of the biggest individual power performances of Roswell's entire season came from Bradley Cuyos on June 13 against the Garden City Wind.
Cuyos went 2-for-3 and BOTH of his hits were home runs. His two-homer performance helped Roswell survive an offensive shootout and defeat Garden City 12-11 at Joe Bauman Stadium.
In a game decided by one run, Cuyos' two home runs were enormous. It stands as one of the signature individual offensive performances of the 2017 Invaders season.
Devin Malone — Six Strikeouts in Two Innings of Relief
The June 13 victory also included an extraordinary relief pitching performance from Devin Malone.
Malone pitched two innings and recorded six strikeouts while allowing only two hits. Six strikeouts in two innings meant every out he recorded came by strikeout.
Malone earned the victory as Roswell defeated Garden City 12-11, making his dominant two-inning relief appearance one of the most impressive short pitching performances of the season.
Kaohu Gaspar — Two Hits in Dramatic Win over Garden City
Kaohu Gaspar also played an important role in Roswell's June 13 victory.
Gaspar went 2-for-4 and helped provide additional offense behind Bradley Cuyos' two-home-run performance. Roswell needed all 12 runs to hold off Garden City in the 12-11 victory.
Mitch Elliott — Two Hits in 6-5 Victory over Trinidad
Mitch Elliott delivered in another close Roswell victory on June 20 against Trinidad.
Elliott went 2-for-4 as the Invaders edged the Triggers 6-5 at Joe Bauman Stadium. Kaohu Gaspar also went 2-for-4, giving Roswell four hits from the pair.
The victory moved the Invaders to 15-12 and demonstrated their ability to win close games against one of their Mountain Division rivals.
Mike Scimanico — Seven-Inning Performance against Garden City
Mike Scimanico gave Roswell an important performance on June 23 against Garden City.
Scimanico worked seven innings and faced only 27 hitters while earning the victory at Joe Bauman Stadium. The long outing gave the Invaders exactly what they needed from their starter and helped Roswell improve to 17-13.
Jackson Pritchard helped offensively and was identified as Roswell's leading hitter in the game.
Bobby Webb had one of his best offensive games on June 28 when Roswell defeated White Sands 16-2.
Webb went a perfect 3-for-3 and led the Invaders offense. Roswell dominated the game from beginning to end, and Webb's three-hit performance was at the center of the 16-run attack.
Mike Scimanico supplied the pitching to go along with Bobby Webb's big offensive game on June 28.
Scimanico pitched six innings, allowed only four hits and struck out four as Roswell defeated White Sands 16-2. The combination of Scimanico's pitching and Roswell's explosive offense made this one of the team's most complete victories of the summer.
Cody Bishop — 3-for-5 with a Home Run against Alpine
Cody Bishop produced one of Roswell's top offensive performances against the Alpine Cowboys on July 6.
Bishop went 3-for-5 and homered as Roswell defeated Alpine 11-5. Getting three hits against one of Roswell's biggest division rivals made the performance particularly important.
Bishop's home run provided additional power in a game where Roswell's offense gave starting pitcher Ty Geary plenty of support.
Ty Geary earned the victory in Roswell's July 6 win over Alpine.
Geary pitched six innings and struck out four as the Invaders defeated the Cowboys 11-5. Alpine collected 10 hits against him, but Geary continued working through traffic and gave Roswell six important innings.
Combined with Cody Bishop's three-hit, home-run performance, Geary's start helped Roswell secure an important victory over a division rival.
Mike Scimanico — 10 Strikeouts in Victory over Alpine
One of the best starting pitching performances of Roswell's season came from Mike Scimanico on July 8 against Alpine.
Scimanico worked six innings and struck out 10 while allowing only four hits. Roswell defeated the Cowboys 9-3 at Joe Bauman Stadium.
A double-digit strikeout game is a major accomplishment for any pitcher, and Scimanico did it while holding one of Roswell's strongest division rivals to four hits during his six innings.
Kyle Peralta supplied the offense behind Mike Scimanico's 10-strikeout performance on July 8.
Peralta went 3-for-5 and led Roswell at the plate as the Invaders defeated Alpine 9-3. The combination of Peralta's three-hit game and Scimanico's dominant pitching gave Roswell one of its strongest wins of the season.
Kaohu Gaspar — Home Run in 8-6 Victory at Trinidad
Kaohu Gaspar came through again on July 19 against the Trinidad Triggers.
Gaspar went 2-for-4 and homered as Roswell earned an 8-6 road victory at Trinidad Central Park.
Gaspar's combination of average, power and speed made him one of Roswell's most dangerous offensive players, and his home run helped the Invaders improve to 34-19.
Lance Fairchild — Winning Relief Appearance at Trinidad
Lance Fairchild earned the victory in Roswell's July 19 win at Trinidad.
Fairchild worked two innings and faced 10 hitters as the Invaders defeated the Triggers 8-6. His relief performance helped Roswell finish off an important road victory late in the season.
Kellen Marruffo — Eight-Inning Victory over Santa Fe
Kellen Marruffo delivered one of Roswell's longest and strongest starting pitching performances on July 21 against the Santa Fe Fuego.
Marruffo pitched eight innings and faced 35 hitters as Roswell defeated Santa Fe 7-2 at Fort Marcy Park. The eight-inning outing gave Roswell almost an entire game from its starting pitcher.
Bobby Webb provided offensive support by going 2-for-4 with a home run.
Kaohu Gaspar — 3-for-3 with a Home Run against Garden City
One of Kaohu Gaspar's finest games came July 24 against Garden City.
Gaspar went a perfect 3-for-3 and hit a home run as Roswell defeated the Wind 6-4 at Joe Bauman Stadium.
Reaching safely with three hits while also supplying home-run power made this one of the best all-around offensive games by an Invaders hitter during the second half of the season.
Mike Scimanico — Nine Strikeouts against Garden City
Mike Scimanico delivered another high-strikeout performance in the same July 24 victory.
Scimanico pitched six innings, struck out nine and allowed only three hits and three earned runs. He earned the victory as Roswell defeated Garden City 6-4.
After recording 10 strikeouts against Alpine earlier in July, Scimanico's nine-strikeout performance against Garden City reinforced his status as one of Roswell's top strikeout pitchers.
Cody Bishop — Home Run in 11-3 Victory over Garden City
Cody Bishop continued his strong second half on July 25 against Garden City.
Bishop went 2-for-4 and homered as Roswell defeated the Wind 11-3. It was another multi-hit, home-run performance for Bishop after his 3-for-5 game with a homer against Alpine earlier in the month.
Kellen Marruffo — 10 Strikeouts over Seven Innings
Kellen Marruffo produced another major starting pitching performance on July 26 against Garden City.
Marruffo pitched seven innings and struck out 10 while allowing six hits and four earned runs. Roswell defeated the Wind 10-6.
The 10-strikeout game gave Roswell another double-digit strikeout performance from its starting rotation and followed Marruffo's eight-inning victory over Santa Fe only days earlier.
Joey Miller supplied the offense in Roswell's July 26 victory over Garden City.
Miller went a perfect 3-for-3 as the Invaders scored 10 runs. Combined with Marruffo's 10 strikeouts, Miller's perfect day at the plate helped Roswell produce an impressive 10-6 victory.
Mike Scimanico — Six Shutout Innings in 6-0 Victory
Mike Scimanico was again at the center of one of Roswell's strongest games on July 30 against Trinidad.
Scimanico earned the victory as the Invaders shut out the Triggers 6-0 at Joe Bauman Stadium. Roswell's pitching kept Trinidad off the scoreboard for the entire game.
Ty Geary — Six Strong Innings in Pecos League Championship Series
Ty Geary delivered a strong performance on the biggest stage of Roswell's season during the Pecos League Championship Series against the High Desert Yardbirds.
Geary pitched six innings and allowed only two runs in Game 1 at Joe Bauman Stadium. Although Roswell eventually lost the game 7-0, Geary kept the Invaders within striking distance through six innings against the eventual champions.
Joey Miller was Roswell's top offensive performer in the opening game of the Pecos League Championship Series.
Miller collected two hits against High Desert in a game dominated by Yardbirds pitching. With Roswell limited to only three hits as a team, Miller accounted for two of them.
Mike Scimanico — One of Roswell's Top Pitchers of 2017
Mike Scimanico delivered several of Roswell's best pitching performances during the 2017 season.
He worked seven innings in a June victory over Garden City, allowed only four hits over six innings in a 16-2 victory over White Sands, struck out 10 over six innings in a 9-3 victory over Alpine and then struck out nine while allowing only three hits over six innings against Garden City.
Scimanico later earned the victory in Roswell's 6-0 shutout of Trinidad. His combination of innings, strikeouts and big-game performances made him one of the most important members of the Invaders pitching staff.
Kaohu Gaspar repeatedly delivered for Roswell during the 2017 season.
Gaspar went 2-for-4 in the dramatic 12-11 victory over Garden City, added another two-hit game against Trinidad on June 20, went 2-for-4 with a home run in an 8-6 road victory at Trinidad and then produced one of his finest games by going a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run against Garden City on July 24.
He also went 2-for-4 in Roswell's 6-0 victory over Trinidad late in the season.
Cody Bishop gave the Invaders another dangerous bat during the second half of the season.
