Best Individual Performances of the 2016 Roswell Invaders Season
The 2016 Roswell Invaders produced one of the most explosive offensive teams in the Pecos League. Roswell finished the season 44-23 and featured a lineup capable of putting huge numbers on the scoreboard, while the pitching staff delivered several dominant performances of its own.
Bobby Webb and Cody Bishop supplied enormous power numbers, Cody Coffman had one of the biggest RBI games of the season, and players such as Rene Moreda, Joey Miller, Jim Smith, Kaohu Gaspar and Louis Martini gave the Invaders tremendous depth throughout the lineup.
On the mound, TJ Pruneda threw a complete-game shutout, Ryan Calby delivered seven scoreless innings, David Johnson shut down Tucson, and the Roswell bullpen featured several overpowering performances.
Here are some of the best individual performances from the 2016 Roswell Invaders season.
TJ Pruneda — Complete-Game Two-Hit Shutout
TJ Pruneda delivered one of the finest pitching performances of Roswell's entire season against the Topeka Train Robbers.
Pruneda threw all nine innings in a 12-0 Roswell victory, allowing only two hits and no runs while striking out six.
A complete-game shutout is one of the most impressive accomplishments for a starting pitcher, and Pruneda controlled the game from beginning to end while the Invaders offense supplied plenty of support.
Rene Moreda supplied the offense behind Pruneda's shutout with an outstanding five-hit performance.
Moreda collected five hits, including two doubles, as Roswell defeated Topeka 12-0. He doubled twice and added three singles, repeatedly putting pressure on the Train Robbers defense.
A five-hit game is one of the most difficult offensive achievements in baseball and was an early indication of the depth Roswell possessed in its lineup.
Cody Bishop put together an extraordinary power performance on May 28 against the Santa Fe Fuego.
Bishop blasted three home runs as Roswell defeated Santa Fe 17-11 at Fort Marcy Park.
His first home run was a two-run shot during Roswell's eight-run second inning. Bishop continued attacking Santa Fe pitching throughout the game and finished with three home runs.
Three home runs in one game made this one of the greatest individual offensive performances of Roswell's entire 2016 season.
Bobby Webb — Five Hits, Three Home Runs and Eight RBIs
Bobby Webb produced a remarkable performance one day later when Roswell overwhelmed Santa Fe 32-9.
Webb collected five hits, blasted three home runs and drove in eight runs. His home runs came in the third, fourth and sixth innings, and he added singles in the seventh and ninth.
A five-hit game by itself would have been memorable. Combining five hits with three home runs and eight RBIs made Webb's performance one of the biggest offensive games in Invaders history.
Lance Fairchild delivered a dominant relief inning during Roswell's extra-inning victory over Tucson.
Fairchild did not allow a hit or a run and struck out all three outs he recorded. His perfect three-strikeout inning helped keep Roswell in position to eventually win the game in extra innings.
Cody Coffman — Three Extra-Base Hits against White Sands
Cody Coffman delivered another outstanding offensive performance as Roswell defeated White Sands 16-5.
Coffman produced three extra-base hits, including doubles in the third and fourth innings, as the Invaders continued to demonstrate the depth of their lineup.
Cody Bishop — Another Three-Home-Run Game against Santa Fe
Cody Bishop incredibly produced another three-home-run game on June 14 as Roswell defeated Santa Fe 10-4.
Bishop's third home run came during a four-run eighth inning that put the game away. Bobby Webb also homered during that inning.
For Bishop to produce multiple three-home-run performances during the same season demonstrated the extraordinary power he brought to the Roswell lineup.
Bobby Webb — Three Home Runs and Eight RBIs against Santa Fe
Bobby Webb produced another spectacular power game on June 16 as Roswell defeated Santa Fe 15-10.
Webb hit three home runs and drove in eight runs. His home runs came in the first, third and seventh innings.
It was Webb's second three-home-run, eight-RBI performance against Santa Fe in less than three weeks, establishing him as one of the most dangerous power hitters in the Pecos League.
David Johnson — Five Shutout Innings against Tucson
David Johnson delivered one of Roswell's best starts against Tucson when the Invaders defeated the Saguaros 5-1.
Johnson threw five shutout innings, allowing only four hits while striking out four.
Holding Tucson scoreless for five innings was a significant accomplishment against the club that eventually finished 51-14 and won the Pecos League championship.
Bobby Webb — Two Home Runs, Five RBIs and Four Runs Scored
Bobby Webb delivered yet another huge offensive performance on July 14 as Roswell defeated Santa Fe 24-13.
Webb went 3-for-6 with two home runs, five RBIs and four runs scored. Both home runs came early, as Webb homered in the first and second innings.
By this point in the season, Webb had produced multiple games with two or more home runs and had become one of the defining offensive players of Roswell's 2016 club.
Louis Martini — Three Hits, Home Run and Four RBIs
Louis Martini had one of his biggest games on July 16 against Santa Fe.
Martini collected three hits and drove in four runs. His biggest swing was a three-run home run during the second inning that helped Roswell establish an early lead.
David Johnson gave Roswell exactly what it needed in the postseason victory over Alpine.
Johnson pitched all nine innings and struck out six as Roswell defeated the Cowboys 12-6.
Pitching a complete game in the playoffs prevented Roswell from having to exhaust its bullpen and made Johnson's performance one of the most valuable pitching outings of the season.
Bobby Webb — A Remarkable Power Season Highlighted by Multiple Huge Games
Bobby Webb produced some of the most spectacular offensive performances of Roswell's 2016 season.
His five-hit, three-home-run, eight-RBI game in the 32-9 victory over Santa Fe was extraordinary. He later hit three more home runs and drove in eight runs in a 15-10 victory over Santa Fe.
Webb also drove in four runs with a home run against Tucson and later went 3-for-6 with two home runs, five RBIs and four runs scored in another victory over Santa Fe.
Cody Bishop — Two Three-Home-Run Games and a Six-Hit Performance
Cody Bishop had a collection of individual games that would be difficult for any player to match.
Bishop hit three home runs against Santa Fe on May 28. He collected five hits in Roswell's extra-inning victory over Tucson. He then produced another three-home-run game against Santa Fe on June 14.
Only days later, Bishop exploded for six hits against Trinidad, including two home runs and two doubles.
The combination of two three-home-run games, a five-hit game and a six-hit game made Bishop one of the central figures in Roswell's explosive 2016 offense.
The 2016 Invaders could overwhelm opponents in a way few teams could match. Roswell scored 23 runs against Garden City, 17 against Santa Fe, 32 against Santa Fe the following day, 25 against Trinidad and later 24 more against Santa Fe.
Within those huge team totals were extraordinary individual performances.
Bobby Webb produced three-home-run games. Cody Bishop did the same and also recorded a six-hit game. Cody Coffman had five hits and seven RBIs against Garden City. Jim Smith drove in six runs with two home runs against Topeka, while Rene Moreda produced a five-hit game.
The pitching staff had its own memorable moments. TJ Pruneda threw a complete-game two-hit shutout, Ryan Calby threw seven scoreless innings, and David Johnson shut down Tucson before later throwing a complete game in the postseason.
The 2016 Roswell Invaders finished 44-23 and produced a season filled with huge offensive nights, dominant pitching performances and memorable individual games. Webb's three-home-run explosions, Bishop's remarkable combination of power and six-hit production, Coffman's seven-RBI game and Pruneda's complete-game shutout stand among the defining individual performances of the 2016 Roswell Invaders season.
