Best Individual Performances of the 2013 Roswell Invaders Season
The 2013 Roswell Invaders put together one of the greatest seasons in franchise history, finishing the regular season with a 50-17 record. Roswell combined one of the Pecos League's deepest offensive lineups with a strong pitching staff and received outstanding individual performances throughout the summer.
Vincent Mejia emerged as the Pecos League MVP, while Mike McCarthy became the playoff MVP. Ryan Normoyle, Roger Bernal, Charles Dubanoski, Chad Kruse, Erick Gaylord and Chris Costantino gave Roswell a deep offensive lineup, while Erik Lambe, Ed Kohout, Jonathan Sa, Chad Hardison and the rest of the pitching staff provided the innings necessary to win 50 games.
Here are some of the best individual performances from the 2013 Roswell Invaders season.
Charles Dubanoski — Four Hits, Home Run and Five RBIs against Taos
Charles Dubanoski delivered one of Roswell's biggest offensive performances on July 23 when the Invaders defeated the Taos Blizzard 13-6 at Joe Bauman Park.
Dubanoski went a perfect 4-for-4, drove in five runs and scored twice. His performance included a home run and a double.
Dubanoski was at the center of Roswell's offensive attack as the Invaders collected 18 hits and scored 13 runs.
Roger Bernal was another major contributor during Roswell's 18-hit attack against Taos.
Bernal went 3-for-5, scored a run and drove in another. Combined with Normoyle's three hits and Dubanoski's four, the top and middle portions of Roswell's lineup overwhelmed Taos pitching.
Vincent Mejia — Three Runs and Two Hits in 13-6 Victory
Vincent Mejia showed why he became the Pecos League MVP during Roswell's July 23 victory over Taos.
Mejia went 2-for-5, doubled, drove in a run and scored three times. His ability to reach base and create runs was a major part of Roswell's offense throughout the season.
The performance raised his batting average to .396 and his RBI total to 88.
Mike McCarthy — Reached Base Four Times and Scored Four Runs
Mike McCarthy had a remarkable run-producing game against Taos on July 23 without needing to drive in a run himself.
McCarthy went 2-for-2, drew two walks and scored four times. Every time he reached base he created another scoring opportunity for the powerful Roswell lineup.
McCarthy's ability to get on base and score four runs was a major part of Roswell's 13-run attack.
Vincent Mejia — Home Run and Four RBIs against White Sands
Vincent Mejia produced one of his biggest run-producing performances on July 17 as Roswell defeated the White Sands Pupfish 8-4.
Mejia went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run while driving in four runs. It was his 18th home run of the season and pushed his RBI total to 84.
For a middle infielder to reach 18 home runs and 84 RBIs at that point of the season demonstrated the extraordinary offensive production Mejia supplied for Roswell.
Ed Kohout supplied the pitching behind Roswell's 8-4 victory over White Sands on July 17.
Kohout worked six innings, struck out six and did not walk a batter. Although White Sands scored four runs, only two were earned.
Kohout also contributed at the plate, collecting a hit in three at-bats. His combination of pitching and hitting made him a unique weapon on the 2013 Roswell roster.
Ryan Normoyle — Three-Hit Performance against Alpine
Ryan Normoyle delivered another big game when Roswell defeated the Alpine Cowboys 8-3 at Kokernot Field on July 11.
Normoyle collected three hits and drove in two runs. He singled in the second, fourth and seventh innings.
Producing three hits on the road at Kokernot Field helped Roswell earn an important victory against one of the strongest teams in the Pecos League.
Ed Kohout — Winning Start at Kokernot Field
Ed Kohout earned his fifth victory of the season in Roswell's 8-3 win over Alpine on July 11.
Kohout allowed three runs over five innings while striking out four. He surrendered only three hits as Roswell jumped on Alpine early and controlled the game.
Vincent Mejia — Pecos League MVP
Vincent Mejia was the centerpiece of Roswell's powerful offense and was named the Pecos League MVP.
His individual box-score performances show why. On July 17 he homered, doubled and drove in four runs against White Sands. Six days later against Taos, he collected two more hits, doubled, drove in a run and scored three times.
By July 23, Mejia was hitting .396 with 88 RBIs. His combination of average, power and run production from the infield made him one of the most dangerous hitters in the league.
Mike McCarthy became one of the most important players in Roswell's postseason run and was named playoff MVP.
McCarthy contributed throughout the season from the catching position and gave Roswell another dangerous hitter in the middle of the order.
His July 23 game against Taos showed his ability to create runs. McCarthy reached base four times on two hits and two walks and scored four runs in Roswell's 13-6 victory.
Charles Dubanoski produced one of the signature offensive games of the season against Taos.
Four hits in four at-bats, five RBIs, two runs, a double and a home run made his July 23 performance one of the most complete offensive games by an Invaders hitter in 2013.
Ryan Normoyle — Consistent Production throughout the Season
Ryan Normoyle was one of Roswell's most consistent hitters throughout the 50-win season.
He had three hits and two RBIs in an 8-3 road victory over Alpine. On July 8 against White Sands he collected two hits and a double. On July 17 he added two hits and two RBIs, and on July 23 he went 3-for-5 with a triple against Taos.
Normoyle's ability to consistently reach base and drive the baseball made him an important part of the Roswell offense from beginning to end.
Roswell's July 23 Offensive Explosion
Roswell's 13-6 victory over Taos on July 23 was one of the clearest examples of the depth of the 2013 Invaders lineup.
On the mound, Erik Lambe and Ed Kohout anchored the pitching staff. Lambe's eight-inning, four-hit performance against White Sands was one of the year's strongest starts, while Kohout contributed both on the mound and at the plate.
The combination produced a remarkable 50-17 regular-season record. Mejia's MVP season, McCarthy's playoff performance, Dubanoski's four-hit/five-RBI game, Costantino's four-hit game, Lambe's eight-inning gem and the steady production of Normoyle, Bernal and the rest of the lineup made 2013 one of the defining seasons in Roswell Invaders history.
